About Litmus Landscapes
Litmus Landscapes is the brand for art work created by Belfast based artist, Maria McConville. A Fine Art graduate from the University of Ulster, Maria initially trained as a print-maker, but has recently moved into painting and mixed media art. The influence of printing can be seen in her paintings, with the process of building up layers, adding, removing and mark making very evident in the final outcomes. Having built a studio in her garden during the first lockdown lockdown, she has started painting again with a renewed passion for her own practise.

Inspiration
Her work is inspired by the meeting of urban and rural landscapes. Belfast is a city that is constantly evolving. Construction is everywhere but nature is never far away. The Harland and Wolf cranes, are forever looming over the ever changing skyline. So they seem to be a repetitive motif that keep recurring in the work, though not so obviously literal. Litmus paper is also a repetitive mixed media element that recurs in the work also. Hence the name, Litmus Landscapes.

Currently all works are all original one off pieces. No two works are the same, though some are similar because she works in series. So if you purchase one of her paintings, rest assured, it is an original! You can purchase the work directly off this website. So if you see a piece you like, please do get in touch regarding postage and framing. If you see a piece you like and it is already sold, again get in touch and something similar can be created.
